Little adventures

Since returning from our weekend in Utah I’ve been so swept up in holiday preparations that I’ve had very little time to think about…well, anything!

This is Jey’s first Christmas in America, and though he’s visited for Thanksgiving before, I want to make our first holiday season together especially memorable. So far that’s meant meals with my family, preparing traditional foods vegan-style, and getting our own Christmas tree.

We have been making some long-term plans as well, but I’ll save that for my next post. For now, I’m trying to focus on small adventures, like tomorrow’s DARPA Network Challenge. They’ll launch 10 giant, red balloons in random locations in the U.S. and it’s our job to use the internet to coordinate and submit those locations.

The Network Challenge Team followed me on Twitter (they’re @10_Red_Balloons), so I am throwing my lot in with them, as well as the MIT Red Balloon Challenge Team, and tomorrow morning I’ll head out to some high-elevation spots to scan the horizon with a pair of binoculars.

Tomorrow is meant to be slightly warmer than today’s 36F/2C, so if there does happen to be a balloon in the vicinity, I’m planning to bring its handler some hot cocoa.
